What’s the difference: Probate assets vs. Non-probate Assets

Perhaps you’ve been thinking about putting together your estate plan, or were called upon to be an executor for someone else’s estate after they passed away, and you’ve heard the terms probate assets and non-probate assets, wondering what they mean. Essentially, these terms describe whether an asset will be moved from the owner to the beneficiary through a Will or whether they will be transferred outside the Will, and not through the probate process.
